Make Life Count 5K Run
The Cause:
As a tribute to him, Monico Luis Cisneros - our Dad, Uncle, Grandfather, friend and mentor, we are organizing a 5K Run and 1K Walk to benefit education. Education is ongoing. Whether an individual does it through reading on their own or through formal education or incorporating life experiences, what matters is that education is the key to reaching and maintaining successes. Successes can be financial, physical and mental.
*Success is meaningful when you 'Make Life Count'!*
Let's get together to celebrate the anniversary of M. L. Cisneros'
continued life journey and to celebrate life by participating in a family fun run, walk, stroll or ride. This event will support the Monico & Manuela Cisneros Foundation. The Foundation's intent is for continued education after graduation from high school by offering Scholarships to Lockhart High School Seniors.
The Foundation:
Monico Luis and Manuela Recio Cisneros shared the belief that the future is determined by investment in education. He envisioned becoming a teacher but the Korean War intervened. When he returned from military service, he enrolled at Southwest Texas State University. With the love, devotion and support of Manuela, he obtained his education degree in 1958. A military career followed with Manuela and their children accompanying him. Following his retirement, they returned to Lockhart. Civic leadership positions afforded Monico Luis and Manuela opportunities to offer educational guidance, high expectations and confidence to many youths. They felt that bright high school students should not be denied a college education because they lacked the necessary resources and support. Their greatest pride was realized when students entered college, thus breaking generations-old patterns of bypassing higher education.
In a rapidly changing world it is essential that educational opportunities and aid be made available to younger generations. An educated person is of great benefit to herself, himself, their communities and nation. This is what Monico Luis and Manuela Cisneros fostered. This is the legacy that will define them.
