The Progressive Club was organized as an African American Non-Profit Organization in the year of 1974 by a group of African American Men from Lockhart who were working together. The men were Hiawatha Franks, Homer Williams, Bobby Ross and Ammie Carter Jr. The first meeting was held at the First Lockhart National Bank in Lockhart. The men saw a need to provide the African American students graduating with Scholarships. To get African Americans more involved in the political happening in our city, county, schools, state and on a national level. The club has supported many graduates, people with special needs and other organizations within the city and county. We are making progress in our involvement with the county, city, school and national government.
