Tolbert Texas State Chili Cook-Off

The annual Al Hopkins Tolbert Texas State Chili Championship is held the third weekend in March each year at the Lockhart City Park, 504 E. City Park Road. The cook-off is hosted by the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lockhart. The Central Texas Tolbert Chili Group sponsors more than 30 chili events all over Central Texas and Lockhart is blessed to be just one of those locations.
 
Admission is FREE admission both days with family fun, food & drink vendors, entertainment, and small carnival for the kids. Overnight camping is allowed at the Lockhart City Park, but there are no hookups available.
 
Prizes are awarded to winners in Chili, Chicken, Brisket, Ribs, Beans, Salsa, for Showmanship. Bloody Mary, and Margarita categories. The top 3 Chili winners qualify to cook "Behind the Store" in the International Terlingua Cook-off in Terlingua, Texas held in November. Also, there is a silent auction and 50/50 cash drawing. The Central Texas Tolbert Chili Group sole purpose is to promote the Official State Dish of Texas: Chili. Why do they do it? To support a long and varied list of charitable causes such as Phone Cards for Troops, the VFW Scholarship Fund, Special Olympics, and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, just to name a few.
